YWAM & Steamships have announced a partnership this week to deliver health services in rural and remote parts of the country. Steamships is assisting with K400,000 towards the medical program.
Steamships Managing Director, David Cox said the company has been operating along the Western and Gulf Provinces for a long time and saw the need of the people living along the coast.
“We are happy that we are able to help the people living in the rural areas of the Gulf and Western Province through this partnership with YWAM.”
“Steamships’s direct involvement in providing much needed medical services in those areas is limited so by supporting YWAM we know that they are able to reach the people and help provide the basic health care and services.”
“We are so grateful for this kind of support,” said YWAM CEO Ken Mulligan. “When we can find partners who can assist with the costs, it allows us to get on and do what we do best – bring health care to people who don’t have another option.
“There are so many stories of lives literally being saved on our outreaches. We are very enthusiastic about expanding our reach into the Western Province and with all their local knowledge, Steamships is an ideal partner to have there.”
The YWAM Ship has already delivered 2400 services and distributed 3800 resources and education seminars in their first two of eight outreaches this year. The funding from Steamships will help ensure that is sustained over the next five months of outreaches as the team expands services to the Western Province.
Earlier this year, YWAM medical volunteers treated a five month old little girl who was suffering and close to death due to dehydration and fever from malaria. The girl was treated and her life spared, much to the joy of her parents.
The team has been doing advance work in the Western Province and other preparation since January this year.
