YWAM and Shalom Christian College Team up to Empower Young People

Shalom Christian College and YWAM Medical Ships will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today, formalising their commitment to establish a collaborative working relationship for the purpose of engaging and strengthening young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Shalom Christian College and YWAM’s relationship will include collaboration on skills-based training, character development and volunteering opportunities aboard YWAM’s Training and Medical Ship in remote villages in Papua New Guinea.
The Principal for Shalom Christian College, Mr Chris England, said YWAM Medical Ships was a strategic partner in empowering youth to live lives of purpose.
“YWAM has an excellent track record when it comes to youth development. Their young volunteers’ passion and strong values make them inspiring role models for our students – I’ve seen first hand the way they connect with young people through culture, creative arts, sports and their commitment to service.
“The signing of the MoU today is another positive step toward achieving positive futures for our students. I’m really looking forward to seeing how our relationship unfolds,” said Mr England.
YWAM Medical Ships Managing Director, Mr Ken Mulligan, said that YWAM and Shalom Christian College share a lot of the same core values; culture, faith, learning, community, relationships and diversity.
“We’ve been discussing partnership opportunities with Shalom Christian College over the last few months. What stands out from our conversations is our like-mindedness when it comes to our shared focus on holistic learning. Shalom’s unique approach to delivering education and creating real pathway opportunities for students is a great strength that we as YWAM really want to encourage.
“This relationship is about drawing from one another’s strengths to provide the very best outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students,” said Mr Mulligan.
In 2015 alone, YWAM engaged over 14,000 youth in North Queensland through their high school seminars, camps and volunteering projects.
