Just last month, YWAM’s Medical Ship sailed to Daru, marking the first official visit of the vessel since the work began in PNG last year.
During the four days of clinics, over 2,238 health care services, education and resources were distributed including treatment of over 250 primary health care patients, over 200 immunisations, more than 400 dental procedures and more than 200 optometry patients. This on top of the more than 16,000 services already delivered in the Gulf Province this year.
There were many life saving stories, and in addition to the fantastic health outcomes, the trip also served to build on relationships, which were initiated during YWAM’s advance team visit earlier this year.
Medical Coordinator Hannah Peart states, “There are some amazing provincial health workers in Daru. It was a privilege to get to know them more and work with them in this capacity. We had a fantastic welcome from the entire Daru community.”
The team also gained valuable local knowledge as they have now headed further into the Province and up the Fly River, in part due to funding provided by Steamships. YWAM is providing medical services in the area through September before returning again in 2012.
