YWAM Medical Ship CEO, Ken Mulligan and Patron Mike Reynolds visited Port Moresby this week to meet with key stakeholders about expanding the services of YWAM’s Medical Ship in the region.
Key meetings with Gulf Provincial Government and Western Provincial Government were essential to developing the vital health programs offered by YWAM.
The Honourable Havila Kavo, MP and Governor for the Gulf Province reaffirmed the Gulf Province Committee’s desire to partner with YWAM to deliver essential services to some of the region’s most remote river communities.
“Our desire is to visit the same communities we were in last year so we can measure our long-term effectiveness,” said Mr Mulligan. “We are looking at how we can up-skill and train more community health care workers so that they can assist in their own regions.”
Discussions with Honourable Doctor Bob Danaya, Governor for the Western Province, were very successful as well, with plans well underway to expand the program into the Fly River region later this year.
Mr Mulligan and Mr Reynolds also had successful discussions with corporations interested in sponsoring the program.
Meetings with leading health and marine authorities in Port Moresby were an important component to developing partnerships to assist with sustainability and planning.
YWAM’s Ship set sail this week for the Gulf Province to commence the 2011 medical outreach programs.
