The ‘Highlands Ship DTS‘ team enjoyed a formal celebration dinner to conclude the second Medical Ship Outreach of 2012 and share the highlights of the last two weeks.

The DTS team enjoyed facilitating teaching discussion groups for a local Discipleship Training School in Kapuna. We sat in small groups and were able to really build deep relationships with the local people.
‘One particular evening a young man was rushed aboard the ship in the evening with blood spurting from his arm, after being attacked with a machette. His tendons, muscles and radius bone were completely severred. The ship staff jumped straight into surgery and were able to contain the bleeding. It would have been unlikely he would have made it through the night without treatment.’-Primary Healthcare Team
‘Over a couple of days in the Baimuru the optometry team were able to assist and give away a number of glasses, one of the slightly comical things that happened, was three out of the seven local police officers came in the get their eye sight tested and were given glasses. Two of which were clinically blind, mentioned that they found it quite hard to distinguish people at night. One of the locals spoke up and said, that the local crooks would be in trouble now, as the police would be able to see what they are shooting at.’ -Optometry DTS students

On Thursday a couple of the DTS students had the priviledge of running a workshop on ‘Worship’. They were able to teach some local youth leaders about prayer and leading worship. (Nathan & Jade)
