Here’s another update from the Highlands Ship DTS team. In continuing from the last update, the team enjoyed visiting a local settlement area in Hagen (foreign/non local people living in the Hagen town area) where Simon (an old staff member from YWAM Hagen) grew up, and were able to bring in some food and drink to share and connect with the settlement community.
The team enjoyed visiting and running the service of a local church that has only just been planted in a village quite a way out of Hagen. After crossing a river….(shallow, but at least 25 metres wide) and walking quite a way they came to this little village that had been quite isolated from the the Hagen community. They were greeted with the high pitch wailing joyful singing of the village women as we entered this amazingly little community. The pastor was inspirational, as in his time walking with Christ the last few years, ended up going into the community where he did not know the language and the people were not very open to him. He felt the best way to demonstrate the love of Christ to the people was to practically help, so he began to help in various ways in gardening and serving and blessing the community with food. Slowly the community began to warm to his love and now there is a small church that the team had the privilege of been apart of on Sunday.
Over the last few days, the team continued to enjoy ministering to local schools and then headed off to a village a small journey out of Mt Hagen. The team enjoyed running some community programs and combined fellowships with five of the local churches and ministering to the youth. On the final day of staying with the village, the team split into three groups and helped facilitate and run three of the churches in the area. They also loved been out and involved in more of a remote village environment.
Over the last couple of days they have ran a couple more schools programs, often having the opportunity to minister to the whole school instead of the usual classes and have enjoyed regular numbers of students with groups of 1000 plus. The team are sensing that their time in PNG is drawing to a close and are looking forward to going home, but are also very determined to finish strongly and are really strongly supporting one another. They pass on their thanks and gratitude for your support and prayer.
PS.. sorry, computer trouble with uploading photos, will try to add later. thanks for your understanding…..:D
