Dr Cassie found Pateur severely dehydrated, eyes sunken, mouth dry and a high fever due to malaria. Dr Cassie was able to quickly work with the local aid worker to rehydrate the child and treat her for malaria.
The family was accommodated at the village so that doctors could monitor Paeur’s recovery. As the rehydration and medication kicked in, she began to regain energy and a bit of life in her eyes.
The health care worker from the village was so grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Dr Cassie. He gained valuable skills in treating malaria, which is very common in this region, and said he had confidence to treat a child with these conditions in the future.
Little Pateur’s life was saved and hopefully more will in the future.
