PNG Prime Minister, the Honourable Peter O’Neill, CMG MP, arrived in Townsville the last weekend in June to discuss further partnerships with the city. As a guest of the Townsville Chamber of Commerce, the Prime Minister was accompanied by the Honourable Justin Tkatchenko, Minister for Sports, Mr Labi Amaiau, Vice Minister for Sports, Mr Isaac Lupari, Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, His Excellency Charles Lepani, PNG High Commissioner to Australia, and Mr Toaml Kulunga, Commissioner of Police.
The delegation discussed opportunities between Townsville and PNG in the areas of commerce, education, government, and sport, with a highlight of the trip being the North Queensland Cowboys game at 1300SMILES Stadium.
During his visit the Prime Minister affirmed YWAM Medical Ships – Australia and pledged the support of the PNG Government, “I know the business community and the church and wider community groups very generously support this magnificent program. I thank you for it, and I assure you the program will have a growing role with my government’s support in the future.
“I am sure our own young medical students will welcome the opportunity to be involved in the program in the future, and I urge you to continue supporting it.”
