Highlands Ship DTS Update
The team has thoroughly enjoyed immersing themselves in the Highlands culture, with a change of scenery and also a change of weather….a little colder 🙂 (a few sniffles going around…)
Over the last week the students have loved serving and coming alongside their YWAM Hagen family and especially connecting with the other PNG DTS team/s. They have enjoyed helping cook and eat and prepare the local highlands food with the Hagen staff.
The team has also ran a number of programs and ministries in the local hospital and schools and also been invited to run some of the local church services. The pace initially for the students has been a bit slower and they are really enjoying reflecting and processing the many things they have learnt and been involved in over the last month.
As I’m sure you were aware, the two DTS teams came together as one family based at ‘four square’ church and were involved in helping facilitate some key meetings and also ministering to over 10,000 school students in the Port Moresby school area (including many of the independent and private schools) as well as assisting in local and remote medical clinics and working with and coming alongside the local church ministries in Port Moresby.
The team on Saturday they had the privilege of visiting the ‘Highlands Hagen Show’ which was a large cultural display of many of the local and remote tribes coming together to dress in traditional attire and dance and sing. Which they loved, and got a little into the face painting also 🙂
They also enjoyed commissioning and sending off the Hagen DTS teams, who are heading up to the Western Province (near where the other ship dts team is) and to a remote village that has only just got airplane access in the last few month on the border of Enga and the Sepik province.
Over the coming couple of weeks the team are planning on staying in a nearby village and staying with one of the church families ministering the local community and youth and then travelling briefly into the Southern Highlands Province before returning back to Hagen.
The team pass on their love and thanks for your encouragement and continued prayers.
