The Youth DTS ended their first full week of lectures with participating in YWAM Youth Street on Saturday. YWAM Townsville runs Youth Street every week for youth aged 12-17 years old, and engages young people through fun activities while providing a positive alternative to weekend festivities. The Youth DTS did an incredible job of mixing in with the crew, running activities, and making youth feel valued and accepted! It is great to see this school jump in straight away and be so determined to help change the unfortunate statistics we often find about Aussie teen suicide and depression by focusing on making a difference in the lives of the young people right in front of them!
Here’s what Meg had to say about helping with the YWAM Youth Street music team on Saturday; “The best thing is that when I was teaching these kids music they really got it! They listened to me and I found a whole new way of connecting with them by being genuine. Talking to the kids was so exciting because it meant I could encourage them through some of the troubles they are facing in life.”
It’s impressive seeing the students on the Youth DTS take what they’ve learned in the classroom during the week and already start to apply it through teaching others at YWAM Youth Street! Two weeks in and still more amazing things to come – stay tuned!
