Hello! My name is Kate. I flew half-way across the world to Townsville, Australia to participate in YWAM’s Discipleship Training School (DTS). Being only 18 years old you’d think it was scary for me to come here, however, I have actually planned on coming here since I was in the seventh grade when God wrote Australia on my heart.
I’ve only been here for four weeks but so far this time has been incredible! So incredible that I wanted to tell people what an average day looks like.
Hope you enjoy… “A Day in the Life of a DTS student!”
Gooooood morning to a brand new day! Each day is worth waking up for here! It comes with its own challenges but it’s great knowing that there’s lots of other people here to help you. (including helping you wake up on time to make it to all the activities!)
There are so many great ways to connect with God here. One of my favourite is taking my bible and finding a nice spot in the sun to read. I also love when we get together each week as a school and have corporate times of prayer and worship.
Each day we get to hear from speakers who are from Australia and overseas. They provide the best input and have such incredible experiences to share from! Not only do we get taught in a classroom setting but we also have one-on-one mentors who coach us through personal trials.
My DTS has a youth focused element to the school. I love this because it means that on top of my Christian growth I am also receiving training for youth leadership. Each afternoon I get plugged into helping the YWAM Youth Teams with a variety of youth programs and get to help organise and facilitate different elements of the programs.
The most amazing part of my day is the people. YWAM has such a variety of people from so many different countries. I love experiencing the diversity and learning how to work together to make a difference. My day usually ends with a bunch of us sitting around chatting, sharing stories, or exchanging events that happened during the day.
