The Western Provincial Government have donated K200,000 to YWAM Medical Ships – Australia (YWAM MSA) for the Medical Ships’ medical and training outreaches in the Western Province.
Western Provincial Governor, Governor Ati Wobiro, presented the cheque to the YWAM MSA Medical Coordinator, Hannah Peart and Program Coordinator, Anna Scott, at Parliament House on Monday.
This year represents the Medical Ship’s third year of trips to the Western Province; focusing on the Middle and South Fly regions.
Since it began voyages to Papua New Guinea (PNG) with a pilot program in 2010, YWAM MSA has achieved 106,384 outputs including; primary health care, dentistry, optical services, health promotion initiatives and capacity building for rural health care workers, dentists and optical workers in the Gulf and Western Provinces and the National Capital District.
In February this year, YWAM MSA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Western Provincial Government which outlines a mutual agreement to work in collaboration to achieve sustainable health outcomes in the Province.
YWAM MSA Managing Director, Ken Mulligan said, “What we’ve been able to achieve so far with the Western Provincial Authorities and health workers on the ground has been tremendous.
A collaborative partnership with the Provincial Government is the key to long-term results, so we’re obviously very grateful and happy to receive this.”
