Port Moresby, April 22, 2015 – Puma Energy, Papua New Guinea’s major fuel supplier, has today pledged ongoing sponsorship of the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) medical ship MV YWAM PNG which arrived in Port Moresby for the first time this week.
The global fuel operator will supply fuel to the training and medical ship to a value in excess of K1m per annum, totalling more than K3m as part of a two-year sponsorship agreement signed this morning.
Fuelled by Puma Energy, the ship will travel to remote communities in PNG to address isolation and medical infrastructure challenges and deliver primary health care, optometry, dentistry and training services to vulnerable communities.
The contract represents a continuation of the agreement held by YWAM and InterOil prior to Puma Energy’s acquisition of the downstream and refining business in July 2014.
Puma Energy’s Papua New Guinea General Manager, Hulala Tokome, said it was an agreement Puma Energy was proud to continue.
“Today we are thrilled to be able to mark Puma Energy’s commitment to the Youth With A Mission cause in PNG and to continue on with the good work started by InterOil in 2013,” Mr Tokome said.
“The MV YWAM PNG represents access to better health care and a better future for many remote and vulnerable communities across PNG and is a cause we are very passionate about supporting.
“Puma Energy is proud to be fuelling a ship that works towards such a fantastic cause and we are honoured to be able to contribute to its life saving work.
“Puma Energy is committed to supporting the PNG community and this agreement with Youth With A Mission is just one of the ways we are doing this.”
YWAM Medical Ships Australia’s Managing Director, Ken Mulligan, expressed his gratefulness to Puma Energy for their generous contribution.
“Puma Energy’s support enables us to reach thousands of people in rural and isolated areas – and we are very thankful,” Mr Mulligan said.
The ship will be officially commissioned in Port Moresby tonight before travelling to the Gulf and Western provinces.
The MV YWAM PNG is a training and medical ship purchased by YWAM in October 2014. It actively develops coastal communities in Papua New Guinea in the interest of major sustainable health improvement.
