Townsville is battling the worst flooding disaster on record, with hundreds of homes under water and up to 20,000 residents evacuated.
In response to this unprecedented weather event, the YWAM Townsville City Campus has been established as an evacuation centre for residents concerned for their safety or flooding in their homes. Beds for up to 50 people are available. YWAM Medical Ships Townsville Campus Managing Director, Mr Ken Mulligan, said that they were grateful to be able to provide practical assistance to those who needed it at this challenging time.
“Our campus is located on higher ground in the CBD, not affected by the flooding. We are thankful we are able to provide a safe place for people who are seeking refuge at this difficult time. Our volunteers are prepared and ready to provide assistance as needed,” said Mr Mulligan.
An inundated amount of donations for the evacuees has been received, including clothing, linen, toiletries and food from the public.
“Our hearts and prayers are with our city at this time – our volunteers will jump in with the relief efforts as soon as it is safe and appropriate to do so,” said Mr Mulligan.
