I have a love-hate relationship with climbing stairs. Most people who know me are aware of that. I’m not particularly quiet about it.
Having said that, the feeling when you reach the top; the endorphins kicking in after you’ve conquered the hill or mountain you’ve been climbing – unbeatable.
But booooy do I dislike stairs with a passion. It’s hard. It’s draining. It forces me to push beyond my own strength and go on when I’d rather turn around (which I have, many times). I am so focused on the trial/challenge that I’m facing, that I forget where it actually leads me and how I will feel afterwards.
Isn’t that how life works at times?
We want to have the outcome we desire without having to put in the work. We want to see the miracle happen but are not willing (or thrilled) to go through the trial that actually causes the miracle to come about. We want to see the storm being calmed without actually being rained on.
So here’s to gratefulness for the uphill journey. Here’s to learning to appreciate the challenge and rise up to it. Here’s to believing that the miracle can and will happen even though you are in the middle of the trial and can’t possibly see how it’s going to work. Here’s to choosing faith, perseverance and hope. Because the end result beats everything you went through along the way. That is what we are striving after.
God knows. He knows and He is right there with you. Never failing, never wavering – always steadfast.
Here’s to the people that journey with, support and champion you. I would’ve given up a long time ago were it not for my husband, my family and my closest friends. Here’s to Him reminding me that it’s not about the climb but about the journey along the way and the reality that we’re doing it together.
Here’s to the stairs and to learning to embrace the journey.
