We all know that there are a total of 24 hours in a day. But when you actually stop and think about it… that’s a lot of time! Given a large portion of that time is spent sleeping or doing other daily mundane tasks such as driving, eating, cleaning, etc. Though generally speaking, we have an abundance of hours, days, weeks, months of time available to us to use however we please.
How do you use your time?
During this Global Pandemic that we have found ourselves home at the moment, and with the restrictions we have around socialising, work, and other activities, it feels like we have a lot more time on our hands! Maybe you would have previously spent time each day commuting to and from your home to your workplace? Maybe you were spending your weeknights out with friends? Maybe you previously spent a lot of time at the gym or local swimming pool – and now these places have closed. Whatever the circumstance – I am sure that you can identify a certain area of your life where you are currently gaining back time during this pandemic. Take a moment to think about what that is for you…
Growing in Wisdom
In Psalm 90:12 David prays: ‘teach us to realise the brevity (shortness) of life, so that we might grow in wisdom’. He is acknowledging that as humans our time here on earth is short and expresses his desire to use his time to grow in wisdom…
Have you thought about using your spare time as an opportunity to grow in Godly wisdom? There are many different ways to do this, and it’s a matter of finding out what works best for you. We’ve crafted up some suggestions below:
1. Bible Reflection: The Bible is probably the best source of Godly wisdom available to us! God’s Word is so rich in content, and there are so many different ways to engage with it, some of which include: meditation, memorisation and/or studying characters of the bible. We have some great resources to help you grow in wisdom through God’s Word. You can find one of our blogs with an accompanying infographic to help with effective bible reflection:

2. Study: If you have a passion for learning and deepening your understanding of God’s character and nature, maybe you could enrol in an online course on a topic you are interested in. Or maybe you could find a series of podcasts by a pastor you admire.
3. Creative Journaling: If you’re more of the creative type, maybe you could use this time to journal out some personal prayers or reflections. This can be a great way to engage with God in a new way. The book of Psalms is a great example of people expressing many different emotions to God. Maybe you could even draw or paint some of these prayers and reflections.
Your turn!
If you can relate to wanting to use your spare time to grow in godly wisdom, it’s helpful to be specific about when, where, and how. Below is an easy downloadable table to help you to brainstorm how you can use your new spare time most effectively. We would encourage you to identify a specific time and use this to your advantage! There are two examples, and space to create your own ideas.
Prayer: Lord, I know that my time here on earth is short. Please help me to use my time to grow closer to you. I want to know you more deeply and expand your Kingdom! Amen x
