In line with our unwavering commitment to Papua New Guinea (PNG), we are pleased to share significant updates concerning the MV YWAM PNG—a vessel that has played a critical role in delivering nearly 2.2 million health and training services through collaborative community development initiatives.
Strategic Decision to Retain MV YWAM PNG
After thorough deliberation and in recognition of the strong support received, especially from the Prime Minister and the Minister for Health in Papua New Guinea (PNG), the MV YWAM PNG has been withdrawn from the market. The vessel remains a vital asset in outreach initiatives, and this decision reaffirms the commitment to empowering healthy lives and communities for a healthy PNG.
New Generators
With generous support from YWAM Norway, two new generators are currently being installed on the MV YWAM PNG. These upgrades are essential for maintaining the ship’s operational efficiency, ensuring that critical services continue to be delivered to remote communities with reliability and impact.
Return to Western Province
The MV YWAM PNG is scheduled to return to the Western Province later this year for additional outreaches. While awaiting the installation of the generators, patrol teams have consistently engaged with local health workers on the ground, ensuring continued collaboration. The redeployment of the ship will enable maximum support to some of the most underserved communities in Papua New Guinea.
25-Year Special Survey and Life Extension Project
Looking ahead, preparations are underway for the 25-year special survey required by June 2025, a key milestone in the vessel’s lifecycle. This comprehensive inspection is critical to ensure MV YWAM PNG remains in survey and operational condition. Stakeholders are actively involved in securing funding for the life extension project, which will not only cover the survey but also enhance the vessel’s capabilities for the years to come. Continued involvement and support in this area are invaluable as we work together to empower healthy lives and communities for a healthier Papua New Guinea.
