Ela Motors has generously donated two vehicles to YWAM Medical Ships – Australia & Papua New Guinea (YWAM MS) to support the School Dental Program and community engagement initiatives. The donation includes a 25-seater bus and an SUV, which will be utilised to transport volunteers across National Capital District (NCD) and Central Province.
The vehicles will be utilised primarily for the YWAM MS School Dental Program in the NCD, providing dental services, oral health education, and capacity building initiatives for local dental professionals via a mobile dental trailer.
The 13 metre-long semi-trailer is equipped with three dental chairs, a generator, water storage, and sterilisation facilities. The project is being implemented in collaboration with NCDC, NCD Provincial Health Authority and the NCD Education Division.
Ela Motors has been a strong supporter of YWAM MS over the past seven years through the provision of outboard motor servicing for the medical ship’s patrol tenders, providing vehicles on a temporary basis when the medical ship is docked in Port Moresby and Lae, and donating a Toyota Hilux in 2022.
Ela Motors’ commitment to supporting community health and wellbeing is demonstrated through this donation, which will have a lasting impact on the lives of many in NCD and Central Province.
Ela Motors CEO, Mr Masaru Mikami, said they were proud to be supporting YWAM MS work.
“It has been wonderful to see YWAM MS grow and expand over the years, first with the medical ship and now with a dental trailer and training campus in Port Moresby. We are happy to support this progress and enhance services for children through the donation of these vehicles,” said Mr Mikami.
YWAM MS Managing Director, Mr. Ken Mulligan, stated that the addition of the two vehicles will significantly enhance the organisation’s ability to provide essential care to school children and communities.
“The bus and SUV will greatly strengthen our operations, enabling us to better serve schools and communities across NCD and Central Province from our campus in Port Moresby. It is a tremendous logistical relief to have the vehicles we need for our programs. We are deeply thankful to Ela Motors for their generous support,” said Mr. Mulligan.
The vehicles will be put to use this week during the YWAM Dental Trailer’s visits to schools. Dental professionals and passionate young volunteers are providing dental treatment and education to students for the next 3 weeks.
