Samantha* came to the trailer needing two extractions and eight fillings, including significant cavities in her front four teeth. Dr. Tracey Walmsley, a YWAM MS volunteer dentist, began with the extractions.
“Before doing the fillings, I wanted Samantha to get into the habit of flossing to ensure her gums wouldn’t heavily bleed during the treatment,” said Dr. Walmsley.
After a week of daily flossing, Samantha returned for her fillings.
“I could tell she had been doing a good job with flossing—her gums were much healthier and not bleeding,” said Dr. Walmsley.
Dr. Walmsley and her assistant worked meticulously on Samantha’s front teeth for the next few hours, resulting in a restored smile and less pain.
“I’ll never forget the moment I held the mirror up for Samantha to see her teeth after the treatment—her smile was huge!” said Dr. Walmsley.
Afterward, Samantha received education on maintaining her smile, including proper tooth brushing and diet.
“The restoration of her teeth should have a profound impact on her quality of life, self-esteem, career opportunities, and overall health and well-being,” said Dr. Walmsley.
Samantha is one of many patients who have received treatment through the YWAM MS School Dental Program. Your donation of $25 can restore a smile. To donate, visit YWAM Ships.
