YWAM Medical Ships Australia, based in Townsville, announced that the Right Honourable Sir Rabbie Namaliu, CSM KCMG, former Prime Minister for Papua New Guinea has agreed to be the PNG Patron for the organization.
Sir Rabbie joins the Honourable Mike Reynolds AM, former Speaker of the Queensland Parliament and former Mayor of Townsville, who is the Australian Patron of YWAM MSA.
CEO of YWAM MSA, Ken Mulligan, said it was a great honour that Sir Rabbie had agreed to be Joint Patron for the Medical Ship program, as he had served the nation of Papua New Guinea with distinction in high public office for more than three decades, and was now a leader of the PNG business community.
“YWAM MSA believes strongly in working cooperatively and collaboratively with key stakeholders in PNG and Sir Rabbie’s past and present standing in PNG will help to garner support and awareness to help take the health and community development initiatives to a whole new level within Papua New Guinea.”
In accepting the position, Sir Rabbie commented, “I am only too happy to be part of the excellent work that YWAM MSA are doing to assist, and strengthen the relationship between PNG and Australia. The work that they are doing is already achieving this by providing real outcomes for citizens of both nations.”
“The work the YWAM Medical Ships program is carrying out in coastal and river communities along the Papua coast is making a real difference in the lives of thousands of villagers, and I hope I can help YWAM expand the program in future years,” Sir Rabbie said.
Sir Rabbie flew to Townsville with his wife, Lady Namaliu in late April to deliver a keynote speech at YWAM MSA’s annual breakfast where key stakeholders from the Townsville community pledged their ongoing support for the efforts in PNG. During his visit to Townsville he also toured the YWAM Medical Ship before it sailed to PNG to commence the third year of outreaches in rural parts of the Gulf and Western Provinces.
