YWAM Medical Ships is delighted to announce that their Patron for Australia, Honourable Mike Reynolds, has been recognised by the Queen in Papua New Guinea’s 2018 Queens Birthday Honours List.
Mr Reynolds has been awarded with a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE).
The award has been granted in recognition of Mr Reynolds leadership in promoting relations between Queensland and Papua New Guinea, including as Mayor of Townsville from 1980-1989, and as Patron of YWAM Medical Ships since 2009.
YWAM Medical Ships Managing Director, Mr Ken Mulligan, said that he is very pleased that Mr Reynolds has been publicly acknowledged for his significant contribution in strengthening the links between Australia and Papua New Guinea.
“Mike has had a long association with Papua New Guinea over many years. He set up the sister city relationship between Townsville and Port Moresby in 1983 and initiated the twinning of the Queensland and Papua New Guinea parliaments in 2008.
“Mike has been a terrific advocate for Papua New Guinea and support to YWAM as our Patron for the last 9 years – his involvement has helped lead us to where we are today. I am very grateful for the experience, commitment and service that Mike has given so generously. His investment has literally affected thousands of people living in remote areas of PNG.
“I’m particularly appreciative of the mentoring Mike has extended to so many of our leaders – the wisdom and experience he has imparted has helped instil the value of continuing to strengthen the important links between Australia and PNG. Mike has a wonderful legacy,” said Mr Mulligan.
YWAM Medical Ships Patron for Australia, Honourable Mike Reynolds, said he was humbled and privileged to receive a CBE.
“I receive this wonderful honour on behalf of so many people who have worked with me over the years in building on the important relationship between Australia and PNG.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue this vision through the work of YWAM Medical Ships. Together with the team, I’ve had the privilege of helping to increase the connections between our nations through the work of the ship. “It has been a terrific journey, I strongly believe the best is yet to come,” said Mr Reynolds.
The announcement of the award follows the completion of the YWAM Training and Medical Ship, MV YWAM PNG’s, most recent deployment to Papua New Guinea.
On Friday over 700 people will gather at the YWAM Townsville Campus to celebrate another successful deployment at YWAM’s annual Breakfast by the Sea event.
Honoured guests in attendance include Deputy Prime Minister for PNG, Honourable Charles Abel, and Dr John McVeigh, Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government.
