YWAM Ships Newcastle vessel, the s/y Ruach, departed Townsville this week after docking in town for two weeks of maintenance.
The stunning 24 metre-long sailing vessel has been hosted at the Breakwater Marina and is en-route to Papua New Guinea for her maiden voyage. The s/y Ruach will join YWAM Medical Ships Townsville’s efforts in reaching remote coastal and island communities.
A Swiss charity known as Jurgenheim Sternen AG gifted the s/y Ruach – a former sail training vessel – to YWAM after investing 6 Million AUD into a refit back in 2010.
The s/y Ruach arrived in Australia for the first time in January after her 14,000 nautical mile voyage from the Netherlands to Australia.
YWAM Ships Newcastle Managing Director, Mr David Stephenson, said that Townsville had been a wonderful host to the s/y Ruach.
“It was great to have the Ruach in Townsville at the start of an amazing journey ahead. The YWAM Townsville team has been an incredible support to us as we begin our work in PNG,” said Mr Stephenson.
YWAM Medical Ships Public Relations Manager, Ms Anna Scott, said that the city of Newcastle had been a great host for both of YWAM Medical Ships Townsville’s ships over the years, the MV YWAM PNG, and the MV Pacific Link.
“After all these years of being hosted so well in Newcastle, we were pleased to host the gorgeous Ruach in Townsville over this past week. We are keen to see how she will work in partnership with the people of Papua New Guinea to continue to strengthen the nation,” said Ms Scott.
Townsville Mariners are invited to volunteer aboard the s/y Ruach in Papua New Guinea over the summer. More information can be found at www.ywamshipsnewcastle.org.au
YWAM Medical Ships Townsville’s ship, the MV YWAM PNG, will start her next deployment to the Southern region and Morobe Province this weekend.
