It’s Twins! A first-time mum finds out at 36 weeks that she’s carrying two

Rita returned home from her antenatal check twice as happy as when she walked in … she found out she is having twins!
When YWAM Medical Ships – Australia’s (YWAM MSA) volunteer nurse, Kerrie McLean, and Central Province District Health Coordinator, Sister Rigalo Mokela, shared with Rita the good news, her face lit up with excitement – it was her first pregnancy, and now she was having two babies.
As Sister Rigalo and Kerrie checked the position of the babies, they found out they were in breech position, lying face to face. Rita was 36 weeks pregnant.
Rita was planning on giving birth in the village, but once she found out about the complications of her pregnancy, she obtained a referral letter from Sister Rigalo and now plans to deliver her babies at a nearby hospital.
Kerrie said that she was so grateful that they were able to see Rita that day.
“It was very satisfying to know that this complex delivery would take place in a safer, controlled, hospital environment rather than at home with limited medical assistance – I’m just so glad we were there to be able to assess her,” said Kerrie.
Sister Rigalo and Kerrie provided Rita with education on childbirth and staying healthy during her pregnancy. Rita and her babies were also immunised against tetanus and given a mosquito net to help protect them against malaria.
