Mitsubishi Electric & Climatrol Donate Air Conditioning for Medical Ship

Mitsubishi Electric and Brisbane-based business, Climatrol, have teamed up to donate and install four air conditioning units valued at over $28,000 for YWAM Medical Ships – Australia’s (YWAM MSA) new Training and Medical Ship for Papua New Guinea (PNG).
YWAM MSA has been delivering maternal health services, immunisations, dentistry procedures, optical services and capacity building initiatives for the last five years with its former vessel, the MV Pacific Link.
The MV Pacific Link was replaced late last year with the MV YWAM PNG – a much larger vessel that will enable YWAM MSA to increase their work by over 500% in some of PNG’s most remote areas.
YWAM MSA’s Managing Director, Ken Mulligan, said that it was great to have Mitsubishi Electric and Climatrol’s support during such a large expansion.
“Taking on the refit of a new vessel is not possible without the support of our partners. To have an air conditioned living area for our volunteers after a hard day’s work is an absolute blessing – we are incredibly grateful.” said Mr Mulligan.
The air conditioning units have been installed in the ship’s dining room where over 80 medical, marine and general volunteers will eat their meals and have a place to relax at the end of a clinic day.
The vessel is due to make its maiden voyage to PNG at the end of April for an initial 9-week deployment before returning to Australia for further renovations. Once renovations are complete, the vessel will be operational in PNG for 11 months of the year.
