Our Training Approach

YWAM Townsville City Campus is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO Reg. No 30614, CRICOS Provider No. 02205D) with a broad range of courses on scope. Our vocational training is designed for those who are seeking not only a qualification, but also an opportunity to use their vocation to serve others.

In keeping aligned with our worldview and foundational values, our Christian ethos endeavours to multiply workers in a variety of vocations who are dedicated to use their profession to help build healthy lives, communities, and nations. Our educational strategy is holistic; we combine elements of informal, formal, and non-formal education to not only impart knowledge and skill, but also good character, important life skills, and a motivation to serve and invest into the lives of others.

Our students are given the opportunity to apply what they are learning in a variety of contexts, including classroom activities, on the job projects, and service learning field assignments. All of our training programs include a practical service element locally, regionally, or internationally which ties in with our long-term vision in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

This learning-by-doing approach throughout our training programs helps students apply new knowledge and skills quickly, allowing the course content to transform from theory to their own real life experiences. It also means that students are not just learning about things but immediately contributing to the growth of the communities they are serving in.

The live-learn philosophy is based on the idea of establishing a community where students, staff, and teachers live, eat, and study in close proximity for maximised learning opportunities. We believe that the most effective learning takes place best in the context of relationships. The strong emphasis placed on building relationships among students and staff provides a secure atmosphere that optimises the learning experience. Informal education occurs through the in-depth relationships developed in the live-learn environment.

Non-formal education takes place in many ways, but it is most apparent when students are on field assignments or internships and face tough, real-life challenges. All of our training is designed to equip students practically in the world around them and each student will experience this through vocational opportunities during their studies. The great variety of course-related activities provides a rich opportunity for learning how to build healthy and strong relationships.
