Global Health DTS
During this elective you will get a taste of some elements of global health and development from interactive sessions with trainers actively engaged in our work in Papua New Guinea and Australia. This is designed to fuel your understanding on what it means to transform a community while preparing you for your DTS outreach.
10802NAT – Certificate III in Discipleship
The Global Health DTS is for those who have a passion for health and community development.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as not merely the absence of disease but the presence of wellbeing. This is in line with our Biblical worldview which values integrated wellness in all areas of life including mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health.
Your outreach may include helping to guide communities through what it means to build a healthy village, working in mobile clinics, running health promotion sessions, and connecting with the general community. No matter what you do, your outreach will tie in with our long-term vision and strategy, to see communities thriving.
This elective is suited for both those that have qualifications and experience in the health / development arena (doctors, nurses, midwives, dentists, dental assistants, optometrists, physiotherapists etc) and for those who simply have an interest.
While this elective is not a prerequisite for our Introduction to Global Health and Development course, it does provide an excellent starting point for this and other health and development-related studies.

“The lecture phase provided opportunity to openly discuss challenging topics and questions. This established a foundation for outreach as we were able to share what we learned with the people of PNG. My passion for healthcare was combined with my new fire for my faith, leading to exponential personal growth and impacting the lives of others!”
“One of my favourite aspects of the Global Health DTS at YWAM Townsville was stepping into an environment filled with mission-minded, God focused, medical professionals. Before even going on outreach, I had the opportunity to learn from individuals with a range of medical backgrounds. What I learned through these relationships is impactful as my clinical experiences in Papua New Guinea as I enter the medical field myself.”
“My DTS experience was crazy! I grew in so many ways on the Global Health elective. Since I am not a medical professional, I was taught a lot about what I can offer spiritually and emotionally through the Community Action and Participation program. God can use anyone!”
